Fifth grade students were selected to participate in the Suwannee Intermediate School STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Club.  Selection and participation was determined by student’s science and math achievement on state and district/school assessments, and class report card grades.  STEAM will meet once each quarter to complete a project that incorporates the different aspects of STEAM.

The first project, Rocket Building took place on November 14 and 16 after school. The project aligned to the physical science standards under the categories: forms of energy and forces and changes in motion. The 28 students worked collaboratively to construct and launch model rockets and learned how Newton's Three Laws of Motion applied to the rocket launch.

All of the rockets ignited and lift-off was achieved.  The recovery systems deployed and touchdown also occurred.  The first STEAM Club activity was a success!
